Inspirations from Alice in Wonderland

Alice, she is a lost little girl striving to be free, oppressed by arranged marriage and ideals of her aristocrat parents and family. We can all relate to the idea of the story, we are not all little girls with elocution lessons and the notion of marriage and children, but we are all told our place on a regular basis. Rules and regulations, sign posts and leaflets, health warnings and best before dates, taxations and bills to pay the never ending long list of making sure we never stray from the path of normality.

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, has been inspiration for music, fashion, photography, art and more. A story is a form of escapism and this one in particular is very subtle with its connotations, just like a painting it can have multiple meanings for its audience. It never directly addresses any possible relationship between the causes of such imaginative worlds, or how the author might have created the narrative, but the audience reads between the lines.
